Six Sentence Sunday

I'm back with another six sentences from one of my Works in Progress, Golden Savannah!

My mother acted like she believed me when I told her what had happened to Evan wasn't my fault. Then again, the details of what had happened that day weren't exactly clear. Maybe I tried to forget on purpose, or maybe my mind had subconsciously shielded me from the truth—I'd heard that was common with traumatic situations. That day almost three years ago was certainly traumatic. Not only had Evan been seriously injured, but that was also the day my father walked away forever. It was if he blamed me for what happened to Evan too and couldn't bear to look at me anymore.

Six Sentence Sunday

I'm back with Six Sentence Sunday!

I was going to share something from FORESHADOW, since it will be out soon...but it's still in editing. Once I'm done editing, I'll share more. Instead, I'm going to share something from one of my works in progress (WIPs), tentatively titled GOLDEN SAVANNAH.

My seventeenth birthday was the day that changed my life forever.
You were expecting me to say something cliché like my sixteenth birthday, weren't you? Nope, seventeen is the magick number where I come from. I think it has something to do with the number seven being whole, complete—and finding him was certainly nothing less than magickal.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me take you back to where it all began...

Want more? Come back next Sunday, when I'll be sharing six more sentences from one of my books. Want to read six sentences from other authors' books? Check out http://sixsunday.com/ for this week's complete list!

Six Sentence Sunday

Here's another six from FORESHADOW, book one of The Shadow Imperium! How would you like to have Rae's crazy nightmares?

The fog thickened around me and began to coalesce. I could hear laughter echoing from within the fog. It was horrifying. I couldn’t get past whatever was forming behind me. I threw my hands over my head in a futile attempt to protect myself and crouched down, sobbing hysterically. I was expecting the worst, but praying for a miracle . . .

Six Sentence Sunday

I probably should have chosen something from FORESHADOW to post today, but I'm just having way too much fun writing OUROBOROS! It was so hard to choose. Here's six sentences from OUROBOROS, book one of The Zayin Chronicles. I just wrote this earlier this week, so please keep in mind that it's unedited.

“Is it getting hot in here?”
Zac coughed. “I think I smell smoke.”
Glancing around, I noticed a light in one corner of the library that hadn’t been there a moment ago. As we watched in horror, an entire bookcase burst into flames. One by one, the fire began to encroach on the other bookcases—and it was heading for us.

Six Sentence Sunday

I had no idea where Logan had gotten his skill with swords. Maybe it was just a natural outcome of his training in self-defense. His two swords moved as if they were two halves of the same weapon and that weapon was an extension of him.
The fight moved so quickly I could barely see what was happening. One of the devils’ swords caught one of Logan’s weapons. The flats of the blades slid across each other and Logan’s wrist twisted, his sword clattering to the floor.

Six Sentence Sunday

Here's another six from Ouroboros, book one of The Zayin Chronicles!

I stumbled and tripped as he towed me across the uneven ground.  I felt a shaking beneath my feet and Zac shoved me roughly to the ground, covering my body with his.  My screaming began anew.  I felt as though something was trying to rip my very soul out.  Zac kept his arms around me, ignoring my struggling.  I felt a strong sucking sensation, and then we were both tossed across a rolling grassy knoll.

Blog Schedule Announcement!

As of today, I will only be blogging three days a week on this blog. I will continue with Why I Love Wednesdays, Short Story Saturday, and Six Sentence Sunday. My Escape posts will still go up on my Team Promethiad blog. You can find the link under the "My Team on Escape" tab at the top of this page.

Although I do love blogging, I need to spend more time focusing on my novels. I am, however, going to be opening up this blog for occasional guest posts by other authors. If you're interested in guest posting, please contact me via email by using the email icon on the top right side of the page.

Six Sentence Sunday

I'm returning to "Foreshadow" this week for another six!

A dark fog eddied and swirled around his body.  Lightning crackled at his hands.  He raised his arms and flung them forward.
I cringed as the lightning surged toward us.  I couldn’t move fast enough to get out of the way.  I shut my eyes tightly, waiting for the shock.

Six Sentence Sunday

Here's another six sentences from "Ouroboros", book one of The Zayin Chronicles!

“Well, I never wanted to get involved in—in—whatever this is!”  I jumped up and headed for the door.  There was a large, muscled man blocking my way, his back turned to me.  I reached out to tap his shoulder to ask him to move . . . and my hand passed through him.  I froze and turned toward Zac, wide eyed.  “Am I dead?” I whispered, my voice trembling.

Six Sentence Sunday

Here's another six sentences from "Ouroboros", book one of The Zayin Chronicles:

I watched in shock as a blade appeared, glinting in the middle of his chest.  The boy’s eyes opened wide, and he slumped to the floor.  I began to scream shrilly, my shrieks reverberating through my head as they bounced around the narrow enclosure behind me.  Another boy stood behind him, his sandy hair gleaming even in the poor lighting.  He twisted the blade in the fallen boy’s body, and then cruelly jerked it out.  He calmly pulled a cloth from his pocket and cleaned the sharp edge that was now dull from a dark substance.

Check back next Sunday for another six!

Six Sentence Sunday #5

I know I've been plugging Foreshadow like crazy lately, but I thought I'd share the beginning of an unnamed work in progress this week! Enjoy!

They say that when you have a near-death experience, your life flashes before your eyes.
Well, I guess my accident doesn’t qualify, although I certainly thought I was going to die.
One moment, I was slipping and falling, the ground approaching at an alarming rate.
Then . . . blackness.
I woke to the beeping of machines and tubes coming out of my arms.
Oh, and there was a guy I didn’t recognize leaning over me . . . A seriously hot guy.

Six Sentence Sunday #4

I'm back for Six Sentence Sunday with another excerpt from Foreshadow!

“Why can’t I help out a pretty girl in distress?”  He winked at me again.
“I’m hardly in distress,” I told him, ignoring the rest of his comment.
“Ah, but there you are wrong.  You are in distress.  You are distressed at the prospect of not being with me every waking moment,” he said dramatically.

Six Sentence Sunday #3

I'm back with Six Sentence Sunday! Since I've posted more serious excerpts the past two weeks, I thought I would share something a little lighter this week.

Logan pulled his aviators down the bridge of his nose so he could peer at me from above the rims.  “Well, if it isn’t Raena,” he murmured in a heavenly voice.
“It’s Rae,” I told him flatly.  “No one calls me Raena.”
He leaned closer.  “And you can call me the guy you’ve been waiting for.”

Want more? Six Sentence Sunday will return next week!

Six Sentence Sunday #2

Here's another sneak peek from Foreshadow!

I counted one, two beats of his gigantic midnight wings and then he was on the ground behind me. He reached down and grabbed me around my waist, pulling me up from the grass. I struggled and attempted to kick him, desperately trying to get loose from his grasp. He held his sword at my neck and I froze. The sharp blade bit into the soft area underneath my chin. The point punctured the skin and I could feel a thin ribbon of blood snake its way down my throat and drip onto my new blouse.

Six Sentence Sunday

Here's a small sneak peek from Foreshadow!

I stood on the edge of the pier, gazing out at the flat, grey ocean.  There were no waves and the sea looked like murky glass that stretched as far as the horizon.  In one hand, I held a plastic box containing my mother’s ashes.  In the other hand, I carried a bouquet of her favorite flowers—pink carnations.
A breeze stirred my hair, carrying with it the scent of salt and fish.  The fog hanging low on the water mirrored the fog clouding my mind.

Want more? I'll be putting up another sneak peek next Sunday. Stay tuned!
